Year 5 - Ennis and Simmonds

Autumn Term 2021

In Year 5 we plan a range of experiences and opportunities, including some involving the idea of apprenticeship, for the children to participate in throughout the school year.  Our aim is to develop their skills and understanding of the curriculum and the world they are in to help prepare them for the future.

Maths

This term we will be working on statistics, multiplication and division methods and
measurement of perimeter and area.

English

In English we will be working on two texts, ‘Should Daleks be Allowed to Live on Earth’ and ‘Cosmic’ by Frank Cottrell Boyce. We will also be looking at a range of poetry.

Class Read

Other

In Science, we will be learning about Earth and Space, alongside designing prototype space buggies in DT. Our focus will continue to be on Hinduism in RE. We will also be looking at the work of Gerhard Richter and Peter Thorpe in Art.

PE Day

Year 5 will have PE on Monday and Wednesday.

PE kit needs to be worn on these days and jewellery must be removed.

The children will need to have trainers and a plain tracksuit for outdoor PE.

Please ensure all uniform, including PE kit, is clearly labelled.

Our Homework

In Year 5, children should:

  • Practise their Maths targets.
  • Practise their spellings.
  • Read every day, recording it at least four times a week.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch with a member of the Year 5 team should you need any support helping your child at home.

Additional Support

Children should also:

  • Practise their times tables and corresponding division facts.

Children could complete activities on our Barry Primary website.
